Computing

This half term, the children have learnt all about networks and their different components. Today, we recapped how routers direct and send data to the correct places and learnt how data is too big to be sent as one file so it has to be broken down into packets and sent in smaller parts. The children then discussed how these parts are put back together and had a go at using a system to help reassemble a picture. The children were amazed that this is all done within a fraction of a second when they use the internet to play games, research information or send an image..

French

Today, the children showed off how much they have learnt over the past two terms. The children put everything they had learnt in French together to have a conversation with someone else in class. Here are just a few examples of how far they have come!

Red Nose Day

The children enjoyed coming to school in their red clothes to support Comic Relief and raising money for local community organisations and change-makers in the UK and across the world.

Religious Education

This week in RE, we learnt about Pesach and the story of Exodus. The children worked in small groups to identify the key moments in sections of the story and produced a 'freeze frame' of the moment. After they had shared their freeze frame with the rest of the class, the children asked questions about how different people in the sence were feeling. The children had some amazing answers and really thought about why they would be feeling the way they were.

World Book Day 2026

Today was World Book Day. We had a great day sharing our book inspired T-shirts, creating book reviews and our own books, sharing books with the children in nursery and choosing a book from the book swap! What a busy day!

Music

This half term, the children have been learning all about pentatonic melodies through Chinese New Year. The children began the unit looking at how Chinese New Year began and how it is celebrated today. They learnt that most Chinese music and traditional folk music is based on a five note scale called a pentatonic scale. The children learnt how to play the scale on a glockenspiel and then copied and composed their own pentatonic melodies. The children then worked in groups to perform their melodies simultaneously and added percussion for when the dragon entered. All of the children enjoyed performing their compositions and dragon dance.

PE

The second half of our dance unit was all about Superheroes. We worked together in groups to create a dance using lots of superhero moves and motifs. Can you spot them in our photos?

Art Day

Our Art Day this year was all about Pattern. We learned about the work of the African-American artist, Charles McGee. Using his work as our inspriation, we created our own paper sculptures filled with pattern. All our art work was on display at the recent Art Gallery.

PE

Our dance lessons this term have been all about working together in unison. For three weeks we linked all our movements to the movements of machines. Finally, working in groups, we put all of our ideas together to create a machine dance.

RE

Following our World Religion Day assembly, we learned about the similarites and differences between the 6 major world religions. We worked together to recognise important people, places and books to each of the relgions.

D-side Dave

Year 3 had a visit from D-side Dave to teach us all about smoking. We learned about the laws around smoking, the dangers to our bodies and thought about ways to avoid peer pressure when we are older.

Computing

The children have really enjoyed learning how to code programs through Scratch. This week the children used their plans to remix code that already exsits. They were able to change sprites and backgrounds, add text and sounds and use loops to repeat parts of their code. The children also began to debug their programs if it wasn't working the way they wanted it to by using decomposition. Here are a few examples of the remixed code.

Religious Education

Today, we continued learning about how religions express beliefs and looked at how some faiths do not allow pictures of prophets or leaders and express their beliefs through other forms of art.We learnt that in Islam, patterns, and calligraphy are often used to express spirituality and reflect the natural world. The children were surprised to learn that within the Islamic geometric patterns there is often a deliberate mistake as it is believed that only god is perfect. The children produced some fantastic Islamic tiles using geometric patterns.

French

For our last French lesson before Christmas, the children preformed the nativity. Here is a snap shot of the fantastic performance with some lovely French accents and beautiful singing.

Computing

Today, we started our new unit on Scratch. The children used what they had learnt in Year 2 about ScratchJr to help them explore the new application. The children were able to change sprites and backgrounds and began to tinker with how to create code. They are very excited to explore and create new programs.

Religious Education

Today, we started our new topic looking at how we express our beliefs. We looked at what spirituality means and how people express themselves through worship, prayer, mediation and creative arts. Today's task was to create a visual symbolisations to represent themselves.

Reindeer Run and Christmas Jumper Day

Today, the children were very excited to be wearing their Christmas jumpers and to take part in the reindeer run. They ran around the playground wearing antlers while chasing Santa carrying an elf, to rise Money for Wakefield Hospice.

French Spelling Bee - Round 1

I am so proud at how many children took part in the first around of the spelling bee this morning and Madam Bex was amazed at how well they all did. Everyone should be very proud of themselves! The children that made it through to the next round were Dempsey, Oscar, Videept, Harper, Mia and Fatima. Well done!

Children In Need

Today, the children enjoyed coming to school in yellow, spotty or Pudsey clothes to help raise money for children in need. The children learnt why Children In Need is so important and even took part in a Pudsey workout with Joe Wicks.

Music

This half term, we are learning all about traditional Indian music. So far the children have learnt about some traditional instruments such as the Indian flute, tabla and sitar. Today, the children learnt that the tune in traditional Indian music is called the rag and that it is create by using a set of given notes. This afternoon the children improvised their own rags on a glockenspiel, first they became confident with the notes they could use and then had a go at making their own rag.

Religious Education

This week it was Interfaith Week. In RE, we learnt all about a different faith called Humanism. The children learnt that some people beleive in a god or godess, some believe in many gods or godesses and some people don't beleive in gods but still celebrate important events in their lives such as births, deaths and weddings. The children learnt that Humanists beleive that everyone should look after our world and you should treat others the way you would like to be treated.

French
This week it was Anti Bullying Week. In French, the children learnt how to say the qualities of what makes them who they are in French. First, the children had to go around the room ticking words they thought related to others in the classroom. They then got to see what everyone else thought were their best qualities and made a poster showing what made them who they are.

All Around the World Day

Today, the children learnt all about Japan as part of 'All Around the World Day'. The children learnt lots of interesting facts about Japan, such as, where it is, it's capital city, the main religion and some of its famous landmarks and traditions. The children even learnt how to say and write their numbers to 10 in Japanese! Some of the children's highlights of the day, were making their own origami bookmarks, learning about Yayoi Kusama and of course trying some traditional Japanese foods. Some of the children were a little unsure at first, but they should be very proud of themselves for trying something different. A lot even found out that they actually, really liked it!
